Allergy is a multi organ disease, affecting those who suffer in a wide range of ways. Frequently people have more than one symptom and the impact on sufferers lives can range from the mild to the very severe including long term illness and life threatening reactions. National Allergy Week was established to raise awareness of the seriousness of the disease and to highlight the range of problems that people with allergic disease have to cope with. With over 20 million people in the UK suffering from allergy at some time in their life, we have the highest incident of allergy in Europe but the smallest number of specialist clinics able to diagnose and treat the disease. It is therefore vital that people know that they are able to get help, advice and support from Allergy UK.
